Sage allows just one shot in 2-0 win over SUNY Delhi

Albany, NY –  The Sage Colleges women's soccer team outshot SUNY Delhi, 30-1 in a 2-0 non-league home win at the Albany College of Pharmacy Sports Complex Tuesday. The Gators, winners of four of the last five, now stand 8-5-2 while the Broncos lost for just the second time this season (9-2).

Sage had a 16-0 shot advantage at halftime. The Gators defense did not allow a shot until 22:06 remaining in the second half. Bronco goalkeeper Rachael Scoones made nine stops. Sage had all eight corners in the game. This was the fewest shots allowed by Sage since MCLA did not have any shots in a 1-0 Sage win on September 7. Senior goalkeeper Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) did not have to make a save and recorded her first shutout of the year and the team's third.

Just 5:20 into the game, the Gators took the lead. Senior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) deflected in a corner pass from the left side by freshman forward Hallee Klostrman (Modena, NY/Walkill). It was Marfone's team leading seventh of the season.

At 30:17, the Gators made it 2-0. Scoones came out to grab a loose ball but it got loose again in traffic on the outside left of the net. Sage junior forward Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) was there and shot it in for her third of the season and the two goal lead.

The Gators had two other solid chances in the first half. With 33:40 left in the half, senior midfielder Ariannah Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) got a long lead pass and broke in but Scoones came out and made the stop. With 13:30 left in the half, Silk got in alone but shot it just wide to the right.

Sage is back in action for an Empire 8 game Saturday at Houghton at 3:30 p.m. The Broncos host Bryant & Stratton Syracuse Saturday at 2 p.m.
