Gators drop E8 match at SJFC

Pittsford, NY – The Sage Colleges women's soccer team had a three-game winning streak snapped in a 3-1 Empire 8 loss at St. John Fisher Saturday. The Cardinals improved to 6-4-2 for the season and their record in the Empire 8 is now 3-1-1. The Gators, suffering their first loss since September 29, fell to 7-5-2 on the season and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Sage outshot Fisher, 22-15, with 14 of those shots coming in the second half. Fisher had six corner kicks while Sage had four. Senior goalkeeper Emma Augustine (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) made six saves for the Gators, including five in the second half. Three goalkeepers played for the hosts, with starter Melissa McGowan and Kayla Shutts making four saves each and Gabriella D'Ambrosio stopping two.

Tara Marcello got the first goal of the game with only 4:31 into the contest for St. John Fisher. She flicked in a cross from Isabelle Destefano for the early lead and Elise Olivo also assisted on the play. It remained 1-0 at halftime.

Shiane Irwin made it 2-0 for the Cardinals at 46:09, moments into the second half. Her goal was unassisted. Then at 1:37 later, Carli Kovarik also scored an unassisted goal for a 3-0 Fisher lead.

Sage senior forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) put the Gators on the board with her fifth goal of the season. She ended the shutout bid at 81:06 with the goal assisted by rookie Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill). It gave Trimblett 105 career points, leaving her six behind Kelley Richer '94 for second all-time in Sage women's soccer career points. Her 41st career goal now has her seven shy of Richer for second in career goals. Klosterman leads the Gators this fall with five assists.
