Gators stroll past Wildcats 7-1

 

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match. The Gators strolled to a 7-1 win to improve to 7-4-2, while SUNY-Poly drops to 1-10-1.

The Gators led 4-0 at the half and were paced by the play of several different players. Sage's rookie forward Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) finished the night with two goals and an assist. She now has four goals and four assists for 12 points.  Senior forward Joleen Marfone (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) added four points on a goal and two assists to help Sage as they earned the team's third straight win.

Marfone now has 21 career goals which ranks 11th all-time, while her 16 assists is sixth on the career list. She is also climbing the program's career point list as well as she is now tied for ninth with 57 points and is tied with Maria Cabral (57 points, 1988-1991). Marfone is also now tied for sixth all-time in games played having played in her 68th career match on Tuesday.   

Sage's senior keeper Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) played the first half with one save and no goals allowed in 45 minutes of work. Rookie Mickaela Buzzy (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) worked the second half with two saves and one goal allowed. Augustine earned the win to move to 3-1 in goal this fall and now boasts a 1.42 career goals against average in 25 matches played for the Gators, while also recording her 100th career save in the action.

SUNY-Polytechnic's senior forward Nakeya Stedman (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) tallied her 10th goal of the season as she scored in the match to break up Sage's shutout bid.

The Wildcats' sophomore keeper Alysia Thomas (Greenville, NY/Greenville) made 16 saves in the action.

Sage is back in action on October 13 travelling to St. John Fisher College for a 5 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
