Emerson trips up Gators, 2-1

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Lions of Emerson College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up. Emerson recorded a 2-1 road win to improve to 5-4 on the year, while the loss puts Sage at 4-4-2.

Emerson struck first as junior forward Veronica Alberts (Half Moon Bay, CA) scored her first goal on the season on a lop shot up and over Sage's senior keeper Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) to give the Lions a 1-0 lead at the 8:40 mark.

Leading 1-0 at the half, Emerson jumped out to a 2-0 lead when senior forward Paige Haley (San Diego, CA) converted the feed from the left side from rookie forward Grace Cosgrove (Sherman Oaks, CA) for the goal to the ride side of the net at 68:08.

The Gators pulled within one goal when a foul was committed in the box and Sage's rookie forward Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) was awarded a penalty kick which she made at the at the 77:55 mark for her first collegiate score. Despite several chances, Sage was unable to put the ball in to tie the match.

Sage's Augustine made four saves in the loss as she falls to 0-1. Emerson's rookie Sophia Giordano (Alamo, CA) picked up the win as she made four saves and is now 2-0.

Sage is back in action on October 3 travelling to Utica College for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest. Emerson is back in action on October 2 travelling to Smith College for a 4 p.m. match.
