Sage women's soccer team earns United Soccer Coaches Regional Ranking

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team is off to the best start under third-year head coach Garrett Cobb. The Gators stand at 4-0-1 on the season and picked up a No. 8 ranking in the most recent regional poll for the East Region, released on September 11.

The Gators are coming off a 1-1 double overtime tie with Hamilton College on September 9 after they went 2-0-1 on the week with wins over Bard College and MCLA.

Thus far on the 2018 season, Sage's offense has outscored their opponents by an 8-3 margin with two shutouts.  Leading the offense this fall is senior Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) as she has six points on three goals with one game-winning goal.

A four-year performer for the Gators, Marfone is making her mark on the Sage women's soccer record book. She is currently 13th in goals with 18 on her career, while ranking in a tie for 10th in points (50), and is also tied for seventh with 14 career assists. She has now played in 60 games as a Gator and is tied for 16th in career games played.

In Sunday's match with Hamilton, rookie keeper Mickaela Buzzy (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) recorded 19 saves in the action with one goal allowed. Her single-game performance is tied for the second most in a game as she tied Brittany McDonald (19 saves vs. St. Joseph's College, 9/26/09) with her efforts. On the season, Buzzy has a 2-0-1 mark in net with a 0.62 goals against average with a .931 saves percentage.

Sage is back in action on September 15 travelling to New Jersey to take on Stevens Institute of Technology for the Empire 8 opener. Action commences Saturday at 11 a.m.
