Albany, NY – Sophomore defender Reagan Fesette (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) scored at 50:57 to lead the Sage Colleges to a 1-0 win over visiting Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a women's soccer game at the Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex Friday night. The Gators now stand 4-0 while the Trailblazers are 1-2.
Sophomore midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) took a corner and Fesette was in close to head in the eventual game-winner. It was her first of the season. The Gators took 31 shots, including 23 in the second half, and did not allow a shot by the Trailblazers. Sage had all nine corners in the contest.
The teams were scoreless in the first half, and the Gators had a 8-0 shot advantage in the half. Sage almost tallied the first goal of the night late in the half. With 1:19 left on the clock, a high drive from freshman Alexa Petrovik (Winslow, ME/Winslow) was saved near the left post by senior Megan Richardson (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley).
Sage came out on fire in the second half, peppering the MCLA cage. The Gators had eight shots in the first 10 minutes of the half, including the goal. Richardson made 11 of her 12 saves in the second half, and her leaping save at 38:30 off the foot of senior defender Madison Spohr (Cheyenne, WY/Ramstein – Germany) was one of her best of the night. She kept it a one goal game with two other fine stops in the final 6:17.
Sage, which has allowed just two goals in the first four games, returns to action Sunday at home against Hamilton College at 12 p.m. MCLA is at Castleton Wednesday at 4 p.m.
