Women's soccer drops heartbreaker in overtime to Alfred, 2-1 in program's 500th contest

Alfred, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team travelled to Alfred University on Saturday for an Empire 8 match-up with the Saxons. The Gators held a 1-0 lead for most of regulation, before the Saxons tied the match and sent it to over overtime. In the first period of overtime, Alfred collected the game-winner, beating Sage 2-1. Alfred improves to 4-5-3 overall and 1-0-2 in the league, while Sage drops to 4-6 overall and 0-2-1 in the Empire 8. The contest was the 500th varsity game for the Sage women's soccer team after first playing soccer in 1988.

Sage's sophomore forward Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) gave Sage the lead on her fifth goal of the fall when she scored at 27:40.  Alfred's Amanda Guariglia tied the match with her goal at 77:14 to send the game to overtime. In the first period of overtime, Emily Wright provided the game-winner for the Saxons on her goal at 98:40.

Sage's junior goalie Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) made five saves in the contest, while Alfred's Sammy Jo Shanahan added six saves in collecting the win.

Next up for the Gators, they will travel to Nazareth on October 8 for the Empire 8 match-up.
