Gators play St. John Fisher to a 2-2 tie

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest. After trailing 2-0 until late in the second half, Sage tied the action and forced overtime. After 110 minutes of play, Sage and St. John Fisher settled for a 2-2 overtime tie. Sage is now 4-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Empire 8, while St. John Fisher is now 3-6-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.

The Cardinals scored first as rookie midfielder Elise Olivo (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) collected her first collegiate score at the 19:32 mark after she dribbled past a pair of defenders.  Just before the half, junior defender Makenzie Winslow (Newcomb, NY/Newcomb) gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with her first goal of the year at 39:39.

After trailing, 2-0 Sage's senior midfielder Alyssa Lepper (Remsen, NY/Poland Central) scored her first goal of the season on a pass from junior midfielder Dominque Puglisi (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) at the 75:11 mark. The final goal was tallied by junior forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) on a pass from Lepper) which tied the action. For Trimblett the goal was her fifth of the season and her 32nd career goal. She ranks fourth in career goals at Sage and now has 84 career points which is also fourth best at Sage.

Despite chances by both teams, the match ended in a 2-2 double overtime tie.

Sage's junior goalie Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) made five saves in the match, while SJFC's junior Melisssa McGowan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) made 10 saves in the contest.

Next up for the Gators, they will travel to Plattsburgh State for a 7 p.m. non-conference match on October 3. St. John Fisher hosts the University of Rochester, also on October 3 at 7 p.m.
