Marfone helps to lead Gators past MCLA, 3-0

North Adams, MA- The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team travelled to Massachusetts on Saturday evening for a non-conference match-up with the Trailblazers. The Gators picked up a 3-0 win to improve to 3-1 on the year. Sage's junior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) notched a goal and an assist in leading the Gators past the MCLA Trailblazers 3-0 at Shewcraft Field.

In the opening half, MCLA almost broke through first when Aleah Sangiovanni's shot hit the crossbar from just outside the eighteen early on.  From there, the Gators took control and would outshoot MCLA 13-5 in the half.  They would finally find the net in the 35th minute.

Junior midfielder Ariannah Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) pushed a thru pass forward to a streaking Marfone.  She would be behind the defense and easily slip one past MCLA keeper Megan Richardson for a 1-0 lead.  It would stay that way until halftime.

In the second half, the Gators tallied twice in the final fifteen minutes to put the game away.  In the 76th minute, Marfone ripped a shot that deflected towards teammate sophomore Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville).  Silk easily got it past Richardson for a 2-0 lead.  The Gators would then extend the lead in the 87th minute when junior Jordyn Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) connected on an unassisted goal.

Junior goalie Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) earned the win stopping four shots on the afternoon.  The Gators owned a commanding 28-8 shot advantage over MCLA. Richardson ended with 6 saves for MCLA.

Next up for the Gators, they will travel to RPI on Sunday, September 10 for a 4 p.m. match up with the Engineers.
