Trimblett paces Gators with 6 points on opening night as Gators romp past Cobleskill, 13-1

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team opened the 2017 season on Friday night hosting the Fighting Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill in the opener for both teams.  Sage exploded for 13 goals in the contest to tie the program's record for most goals in a game and finished the night having tallied nine second half goals on their way to the convincing victory.

Now 1-0, Sage tied the record set against Sarah Lawrence College (10/22/14) with 13 goals as they outshot the Fighting Tigers (0-1) by a 63-2 margin.

Cobleskill jumped out to a 1-0 lead as rookie Catherine Funk (Anchorage, AK/Yokota Japan) capitalized on a misplayed ball just seconds into the contest giving the Fighting Tigers a 1-0 lead at :24. Sage tied the action at 5:40 as sophomore Giovana Fichera (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) got a pass from junior was junior Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury).  Junior Ariannah Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) scored the go ahead goal at 19:38 on a feed from Trimblett in what would be the eventual game-winner.

For the game, Trimblett added six points on two goals with two assists.  A year ago, Trimblett led Sage in 2016 with her 40 points on 16 goals and eight assists. After her opening night efforts, she now has 29 goals, 19 assists and 77 points. She is now fifth in career goals, third in career assists and fourth with her 77 points as a Gator.

Junior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) is also making her assault on the career point record list as she now has (39 pts, 13g, 13a) after adding an assist on Friday, putting her eighth all-time in career assists.

The duo of Ariannah Logan and sophomore Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) added four points each as they tallied two goals in the action. All told, nine different players scored in the contest.

In goal for the Gators, junior Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) made the start and played 45 minutes with one goal allowed. Rookie Lauren Paravella (Troy, NY/Troy) worked the second half for the Gators with one save and no goals allowed. Cobleskill's sophomore Samantha Sringhead (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) made 21 saves in the contest.

Next up for the Gators, they will not Wells College on September 3 at 2 p.m. at ACP's Athletic Complex, while SUNY-Cobleskill takes to the pitch on the same day hosting Alfred State at 3:30 p.m.
