Sage’s Lynch Named Gator of the Year in Women’s Soccer

ALBANY –The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2016-17 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2016-17 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, and the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

The Sage Colleges' women's soccer competitor, senior Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties) was named the Gator of the Year.

Head coach Garrett Cobb said of Lynch, "Taylor was a wonderful captain, leader and teammate. She was a force on the field adding goals and assists as well as a strong presence off the field keeping the team focused. Taylor showed maturity to help guide our team forward. She is well deserving of our Gator Award."

Lynch totaled 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists in her final campaign with the Gators. A Skyline Second-Team selection, the forward ranked second on the team in goals, assists, points and game-winning goals (three). Lynch was named the week two Skyline Player of the Week after tallying two goals and an assists in a 5-0 win over Southern Vermont. The senior also made the week one honor roll after scoring the game-winning goal in 4-3 overtime win against ACP in the New Scotland Rivalry game. Lynch leaves Sage as one of the best offensive players in program history. The senior ends her career 1st in single-game goals (4 at Sarah Lawrence, 2014), 3rd in single-game points (eight at Sarah Lawrence, 2014), 4th in career points (71), 5th in career goals (29), 5th in single-season assists (eight, 2016), 8th in career assists (13), 8thi n single-season points (28, 2016) and 9th in single-season goals (10, 2016).

A captain this year, Lynch helped to lead Sage to three straight Skyline berths. The senior will be earning a nursing degree from Sage.
