Gators' women's soccer season ends in Skyline semifinals

Farmingdale, NY –The Sage women's soccer team travelled to top seeded Farmingdale State College on Wednesday afternoon for the 2016 Skyline Conference Semifinals with the host Rams. FSC posted a 2-0 win to advance to the championship game, while Sage's season ends at 12-8. The Rams improve to 10-8-3 and will host the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College in the finals on November 5.

The season comes to and for the Gator rookie head coach Garrett Cobb, who led the team to an impressive performance as the Gators are among the top teams in the nation in Division III having outscored their opponents by a 65-27 margin in 20 matches played. Sage ranked 10th in Division III thus far on the year having a 2.89 assists per game average, while also ranking in the top 15 in total points (185), total goals, and points per game average.

The Rams held a 2-0 lead at the break as Alexandria Tudisco scored the first goal from about 20 yards out at 14:10 to give the Rams a 1-0 lead early into the first half. FSC added an insurance goal just before the intermission as Erika Anzalone struck at 43:14 on a rebound off a Gator defender from about five yards out.

Sage's rookie goalie Cassy Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) suffered the loss and wraps her rookie campaign with a 12-8 mark.

The contest marked the final appearance for Sage's highly successful senior class that includes Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties), Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), Cassidy Bruen (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville), Shelby Ruppenthal (Albany, NY/Guilderland), Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY/Shaker), Rachel Ball (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central) and Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook).

Lynch closes her career having amassed 28 points on 10 goals with 8 assists this fall, elevating her resume to include 29 goals (No. 5), while adding 13 assists (No. 8) and 71 career points which is fourth highest among the all-time players.  Mason established the new standard for career games played as she played in 72 games, while having made 67 starts with 13 points this season (5g, 3a). On her career, she added 64 points on 27 goals and 10 assists, while Ruppenthal, who missed 2015 with an injury, played in 16 matches with one assist in 2016. Overall on her career, she added 12 career assists in 61 career games played.  Bruen handed out 8 assists this season in 16 contests and closed her career No. 2 with 20 assists, just 2 shy of tying the mark held by Ashley Allain (2007-2009, 22). Sarraino played in 66 games as a Gator with 20 career points in 65 appearances, while Koralus added 17 points in 70 career appearances at Sage on the pitch. Ball also played in 60 games over the course of her career, adding three assists and helping to anchor Sage's defense in her time on the pitch.

Sage has now appeared in three straight Skyline Conference semifinal rounds.
