Lynch's OT goal propels Gators past SJC-LI, 2-1

Patchogue, NY –The Sage women's soccer team travelled to St. Joseph's College-Long Island for a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday. The Gators needed overtime, but posted a 2-1 victory over the Golden Eagles as senior forward Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties) tallied the game-winner in the second overtime stanza. With the win, Sage is 4-4 overall with a 1-1 mark in the league. SJC drops to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

SJC scored early into the action as Rebecca Voisich scored just 7:46 into the action. Sage was able to tie up the score just before the half as sophomore forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) found the net on a pass from senior Cassidy Bruen (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) at 30:57 to tie the action.

The score remained tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, putting the two teams on the pitch for some bonus soccer. After one 10 minute overtime period, the score was still knotted at 1-1. Lynch gave the Gators the victory as she crossed the ball into the box on a one-touch from Trimblett at 102:31. The goal for Taylor is her team-leading fifth goal of the season and her third game-winner this fall. She leads Sage with her 13 points on five goals and three assists. On her career. Lynch now has 24 career goals, which is No. 6 at Sage. She also has eight career assists and stands No. 7 all-time at Sage with her 56 career points.

Sage's rookie goalie Cassy Robataille (Amerstdam, NY/Amsterdam) earned the win after making six saves in the contest.

Sage is back in action on September 28 when they hosts Mt. St. Mary College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up held at ACP's athletic field.
