Sage's Andrew Gamarra resigns to accept position at North Central College

Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges’ The Sage Colleges’ head women’s soccer coach, Andrew Gamarra (Lexington, KY) has resigned his position at Sage to pursue a career as the head women’s soccer coach at North Central College (Naperville, IL). He joined Sage’s athletic staff as the head women's soccer coach in August of 2014.

Director of Athletics and Recreation at Sage, Dani Drews noted of Gamarra’s accomplishments at Sage, “We are indebted to Andrew for the wonderful work he has done during his time at Sage.” She continued, “He took over the program in 2014 just prior to the start of preseason and reinvigorated them immediately. He leaves us with a team confident and ready to contend for a Skyline Championship. We wish nothing but the best for him and his family.”

Since joining the department, Gamarra has helped the women’s soccer program achieve new levels of success. In his first season, he led the team to a record of 12-6-2, while the squad earned post-season play in both the Skyline Conference Tournament and the ECAC Division III Metro Tournament. By season’s end, Gamarra had earned Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors after leading the team to the semifinals of both the Skyline and ECAC tournament.

Most recently, Sage’s women’s soccer team finished the 2015 campaign with a share of the program’s first Skyline Conference regular-season championship after an 8-1 record. Sage fell in the Skyline Conference semifinals in penalty kicks and capped the record-setting season with a 14-4-1 mark. The 14 wins is a new standard for success for the team, while also strung together a seven-game win streak and had the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, while three players earned Skyline First Team honors another pair earned second team citations, and the Gators produced the team’s first NSCAA All-East Third Team performer.

In just two seasons, he already boasts a career record of 26-10-3, good enough for a .705 win percentage with the Gators.

Since arriving at Sage, he has also been very active within the community and helps motivate Sage’s student-athletes with his work as a co-advisor for SAAC, while also helping to organize a Be the Match Drive in February 2016. For the second year in a row, Gamarra has also provided area youth an opportunity to gain skills with the Growing Gators’ Soccer Clinic and Sage’s Women’s Soccer ID Camp.

Prior to his arrival at Sage, Gamarra spent five seasons as an assistant men’s soccer coach at his alma mater, Carthage College (Kenosha, WI).

Sage will conduct a national search for his replacement which will begin immediately.
