Angelica DeCianni Tapped as Gator of the Year in Women's Soccer

Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges’ department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams with the awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player.  In women’s soccer, senior midfielder Angelica DeCianni (Green Island, NY/Heatly) was named as the Gator of the Year.

Head women’s soccer coach Andrew Gamarra noted, “Angelica DiCianni is an exemplary member of the Sage women's soccer team.” Gamarra added, “Throughout the course of her athletic career, Angelica faced many transitions and confronted adversity with a positive attitude and hard work.  Angelica was a pleasure to have at practice and was a great leader for her teammates, modeling what it meant to be true student-athlete.  Angelica's enthusiasm and energy will be greatly missed."

DeCianni was also honored this year as the team's Skyline Conference Sportsmanship recipient for her efforts this year.

A four-year letter for the Gators, DeCianni capped her four-year career at Sage having played in 54 games with three assists during that time, while also helping the team to back-to-back campaigns that featured the most wins in the program’s history.  The 2014 Gators advanced to the ECAC Metro semifinals after a 12-6-2 campaign. This past fall, the Gators surpassed that successful season with an impressive 14-4-1 mark after finishing Skyline Conference play with an 8-1 mark and a share of the 2015 Skyline Conference regular-season crown. The Gators advanced to the 2015 Skyline Conference semifinals, before falling in penalty kicks.
