Rams spoil perfect Skyline season for the Gators, 1-0

Schenectady, NY –The Rams of Farmingdale State College spoiled Sage's undefeated campaign in the Skyline Conference as they collected a 1-0 win on Thursday night. FSC's sophomore Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) tallied the lone goal in the action and it was the difference in the action. With the win, FSC improves to 10-5-2 overall and is now 7-1 in the Skyline. The loss snap's Sage record seven-game win streak, putting the Gators at 12-4 overall and also 7-1 in the league.

The two teams fought to a scoreless halftime tie, before the Rams applied a series of pressure moves as junior midfielder Alena Gannon (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) had a shot, which was started off a corner kick at 84:32 by taken by senior Melissa Lijo (Flushing, NY/Flushing). Gannon's shot hit the cross bar and then Howard picked up the rebound and shot it from about two yards out for the goal, her sixth of the season.

Senior co-captain Nicole Maher (Glen Clove, NY/Saint Dominic) made several tremendous saves in the action, including a pair of diving saves right before the half and again to open the second half that kept the game scoreless. She finished the night with 11 saves and drops to 11-2 in goal. FSC's rookie keeper Karla Gomes (Carle Place, NY/Carle Place) picked up the shutout win and is now 4-0-1 in goal for the Rams.

Sage is back in action on October 24 travelling to SUNY-Old Westbury for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game. FSC is back in action on Friday, October 23 at yeshiva for a noon Skyline Conference match.
