Sage hits 10-win plateau as Gators down SUNY-Canton 3-0 on Wednesday night

SAGE'S WOMEN'S SOCCER CAPS REGULAR-SEASON WITH 3-0 WIN AT SUNY-CANTON AS GATORS HIT 10-WIN PLATEAU    

Canton, NY – Sage's women's soccer team travelled to SUNY-Canton for a non-conference contest, the regular-season finale for the Gators. The contest was scoreless at the break, Sage finished the evening with a 3-0 win to improve to 10-4-2. SUNY-Canton drops to 4-15 on the year.

Sophomore midfielder Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Milbrook) put the Gators on the scoreboard first with her first goal of the season at the 53:03 mark after she scored from 13 yards out on a feed from sophomore Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet).

Sage scored next as sophomore Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) added her team-leading 14th goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Margo Teeters (Stamford, CT/Westhill) at 69:14. Less than a minute later, the Gators held a 3-0 lead as junior Shelby Ruppenthal (Albany, NY/Guilderland) scored at the 70:01 mark.

In goal for Sage, senior Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) made 5 saves in earning the shutout win, the third straight for the Gators in the three last contests. She made five saves in the action and continues her climb in the Gator goalie record book. She has 293 saves (No. 4), while having played in 46 games (tied for No. 2) and in 4,166 minutes (No. 3) with 8 shutouts (No. 3).  SUNY-Canton's Liz Lynch made 11 saves in the contest.

With the win, the Gators now have 10 wins on the season, a feat only achieved once before in the program's history. The Gators will look to tie the program's best showing with an 11-6-2 mark in 2003. Sage will host the No. 6 seeded Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury in the Skyline Conference quarterfinals on November 1 in a 1 p.m. contest taking place at Albany College of Pharmacy. The Gators will be making the program's seventh appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament in the eight-year history in the league. The 2014 appearance under rookie head coach, Andrew Gamarra is the first for the Gators at the No. 3 seed.
