Women's Soccer beats CMSV on the road, 3-2

Riverdale, NY – Sage's women's soccer team travelled to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference match and came away with a thrilling 3-2 win. The victory moves Sage to 7-4-2 overall and 4-2 in Skyline Conference play. CMSV drops to 11-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Sage led 1-0 at the break as senior Melissa Spring (Penfield, NY/Penfield) converted the shot from sophomore forward Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) on a corner kick at 44:03.

CMSV tied the action as Megan DeRosa scored her 16th goal of the season at 45:23 as the game became tied in the opening minute of the second half.

Rookie Jenna Retell (Schaghticoke, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) gave Sage a 2-1 lead as she made her penalty kick shot at 48:46.  Junior co-captain Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic) gave Sage a 3-1 lead with her fifth goal of the season as she got a feed from rookie Alexis Whalen (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) at 51:23.

CMSV's DeRosa found the net again on a pass from Julia McGowan at 78:16 pulling the host Dolphins within one score. Sage held on and has now won three of their last four contests, all in conference play and have already surpassed last year's total wins and Skyline Conference wins heading into the final week of conference play.

On the fall, Mason now has a personal-best 24 points on 11 goals and 2 assists, while Maher has elevated her season total to 12 points on 5 goals and 2 assists. Maher is making her run for Sage's scoring mark as she now has 54 points, which is No. 6 at Sage as she has 22 goals and 10 assists.

Sage's keeper, senior Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) finished the night with six saves. She stands No. 4 on the Gators' record book with her 288 saves.

Sage returns to action on Wednesday, October 22 travelling to Sarah Lawrence for a Skyline Conference match that will take place at the Tybetts Brook Park at 8:30 p.m.
