Gator top Purchase for key Skyline win, 3-1

Lansingburgh, NY – Sage's women's soccer team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Wednesday night at Lansingburgh High School 3-1 to in Skyline Conference play. Sage improves to 6-3-2 overall and 3-1 in the league, while Purchase drops to 5-5 and 2-1 in the conference.

Head women's soccer coach, Andrew Gamarra noted, "We took another great stride today." Gamarra continued, "We were able to possess the ball and move it around the field, which is something we have strived for all season.  Our outside midfielders deserve a lot of credit--they were able to penetrate Purchase's outside backs and deliver dangerous balls across the mouth of the goal."

Junior co-captain Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic) gave Sage a 1-0 lead with her fourth goal of the season. She scored at 13:13 on a feed from junior Shelby Ruppenthal (Albany, NY/Guilderland) as she tallied her 53rd career point. Maher has 22 career goals and eight assists.

In the second half, Sage's Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties) scored her second goal of the season as she converted the feed from rookie Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) at 53:39.  Skyline Conference and ECAC Division III Metro Player of the Week, sophomore forward Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) added her team-leading 11th goal of the season as she had a break away and gave the Gators a 3-0 lead at 72:51.

Purchase's junior Kristen Kohn (Morristown, NJ/Morris County School of Technology) broke up the shutout bid on a feed from rookie Emily Saltman (Huntington, NY/Huntingdon) at 83:59 as she connected for her second goal of the season.

Sage's keeper, senior Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) finished the night with four saves. She stands No. 3 on the Gators' record book. Purchase's sophomore Briana Leon (Glen Cover, NY/Glen Cove) made 11 saves in taking the loss. 

Sage returns to action on Thursday, October 16 hosting Mt. St. Mary College at 4 p.m. at Saint Rose's Plumeri Sports Complex. Purchase College is back in action on October 13 hosting York College at 7 p.m.
