Gators finish night with a 1-1 tie after double overtime with NJCU

Albany, NY – Sage's women's soccer team hosted the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University on Thursday night at the Plumeri Sports Complex and came away with a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play. Sage stands at 4-2-2, while NJCU is 3-2-2.

The Gators took a 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties) put the ball in on a shot from 18 yards out and slipped the ball past NJCU's keeper at 32:05 for her first tally of the year. NJCU tied the action after a penalty kick was awarded and junior Cassie Lubonski (Edison, NJ/Edison) converted her attempt as it slipped past Sage's keeper, senior eagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk)  to the left at 37:53.

The score was knotted at 1-1 when Sage's rookie Jenna Retell (Schaghticoke, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) was awarded a pk as well at 53:11, but NJCU's keeper, senior Brittany Hoffman (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) made a diving save to the left to stop the shot and keep the game deadlocked at 1-1, a score that held up after 110 minutes of play.

Sage's Waddingham made three saves in the action, while NJCU's goalie Hoffman also made ten saves in goal.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, September 27 for a 2 p.m. Skyline Conference match, while New Jersey City University is also in action on Saturday at NJAC opponent, Rutgers University-Camden for a 1 p.m. league match-up.
