Mason and Ruppenthal key high-powered Gator offense as Sage downs GMC, 5-1

Albany, NY – Sage's women's soccer team hosted the Eagles of Green Mountain College on Tuesday night and came away with a 5-1 win to improve to 4-2-1. GMC drops to 1-5 n the year.  Sage's sophomore Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) collected five points in the victory as she had two goals and an assists. Mason now has a team-best six goal and 13 points.

Sage' senior midfielder Shelby Rupenthal (Albany, NY/Guilderland) scored the first goal of the night on a feed from Mason at 10:05. GNC's junior Allison Wadsworth (Northville, NY/Northville) tied the action as she scored her fifth goal of the season at 11:12 on a feed from junior Sara Tucker (Alford, MA/Monument Mountain Regional). Minutes later Mason scored what would be the game winner (13:26) as she connected for the goal on a pass from freshman Nicole Soultanian (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater Central).

By game's end, Ruppenthal had two goals, while junior captain Nicole Maher (Glen Cove, NY/Saint Dominic) added a goal, her third of the year and the 21st of her career. Maher now has 50 career points and is now one of eight Sage women's soccer players with 50 or more career points. She is tied with two players for No. 6 on the career point list (Nicole Killeen, 2007-2010, 22g, 6a) and Lisa Reles (2004-2007, 20g, 10 a).

Sage's rookie goalie Ashley Donovan (West Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie-Athens) made her first career start and picked up the win with one save on the night. GMC's junior keeper, Kim Simonetti (Salem, MA/North Shore Technica) made seven saves in the loss.

Sage returns to action hosting New Jersey City University on Thursday, September 25 at Saint Rose's Plumeri Sports Complex at 8:15 p.m. Green Mountain is back in action on September 27 hosting Maine-Farmington at 3:30 p.m.
