Gators deliver 6-1 victory to hand Gamarra first career win in Battle of New Scotland Avenue

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Wednesday in the "Battle of New Scotland Avenue." Sage came away with the 6-1 win and earned the first career victory for rookie head coach Andrew Gamarra along the way. Sage stands at 1-1-1 on the year, while ACP drops to 2-1.

Sage led 3-0 at the break as sophomore Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) scored back to back tallies to pace Sage to an early 2-0 lead. Mason scored the first goal of the action at 40:42 and then converted a feed from rookie Jenna Retell (Schaghticoke, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) at 26:33.

Sophomore forward Cassidy Bruen (Baldwindsville, NY/Baldwinsville) connected for two goals as well in the action as she scored at 15:44 in the first half and again in the second half at 51:25. Bruen has taken an early lead in the Gator scoring race with three goals thus far in three games played.

Sophomore Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY Shaker) and rookie Nicole Soultanian (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater Central) each found the net, while Soultanian added an assist for three points in the action.

ACP's freshman Nive Sivakumar (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) broke up Sage's shutout bid with her first collegiate goal at the 86:21 mark.

Sage's senior goalie Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) made two saves with no goals allowed in her 61 plus minutes of work. Rookie Ashley Donovan (West Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie-Athens) made one save with one goal allowed in her 29 minutes of service.  Waddingham earned the win and now has 230 career saves in her 34 games played in goal.

ACP's sophomore goalie Amy Jagareski (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) made two saves in 45 minutes of work with three goals allowed and shared time in the net with rookie keeper, Kennedy Rives (Austin, TX/Shenendehowa). Rives recorded two saves with three goals allowed in 45 minutes of work.

Sage returns to action on September 6 travelling to SUNY-Potsdam for a 1 p.m. match-up with the Bears.  Albany College of Pharmacy will host their American Cancer "Making Strides Event" on Friday, September 5 when they host Kings College (NY) at 3 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support to help in the fight against breast cancer. Anyone wearing pink on Friday will be entered to win a variety of prizes from ACP.
