Women's soccer squad claims third place as the Gators convert PK's

Utica, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team faced the Wildcats of SUNY-IT on Sunday in the consolation games of the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational. The Gators and the Wildcats played to a 1-1 overtime draw, before the third place trophy was handed to the Sage team with a 3-1 performance in penalty kicks, Sage is now 0-1-1 on the year, while SUNY-iT is now 0-1-1.

Sage scored first as sophomore forward Cassidy Bruen (Baldwindsville, NY/Baldwinsville) connected for her first goal as a Gator at the 58:16 mark. SUNY-IT's Kristina Strang tied the action with her goal at the 62:05 mark and the two teams played to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. After two overtime periods with the score still knotted at 1-1, the game officially ends as a tie.

Sage's Alexandra Robert (Melrose, NY/Hoosic Valley), rookie Jenna Retell (Schaghticoke, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake), and Bruen all converted their attempts to give Sage the third place trophy.

Sage's senior goalie Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) made seven  saves in the action as the Gators the Wildcats with 18 shots. Waddingham now has 227 career saves and stand No. 4 on the career save list.

Sage will host Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday, September 3 at 5 p.m. at Albany Pharmacy.
