Utica, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team opened the 2014 campaign on Saturday facing Hilbert College in the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational. The Gators dropped a heartbreaker 1-0 to Hilbert in head coach Andrew Gamarra's debut. Sage will face the tournament host, SUNY-IT on Sunday at noon on the SUNY-IT campus.
Hilbert scored the lone goal of the action in the final two minutes of play as Chelsea Olson pushed a goal through at the 88:41 mark on a feed from Megan Van Norman.
Sage's senior goalie Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) made five saves in the action as the Gators challenged Hilbert with 17 shots. Sage outshot Hilbert 17-7, but goalie Grace Adams made 11 saves in earning the win. Waddingham now has 220 career saves and moved into the No. 4 spot on the career save list as she moved ahead of Kysa Berg (1992-1993, 216).
