Gators fall 1-0 to Potsdam in women's soccer action

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Bears of SUNY-Potsdam on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Bears tallied the 1-0 win over Sage and improve to 2-3 in the year. The loss puts Sage at 1-3 on the year.

After playing the first half to a scoreless tie, Potsdam's sophomore midfielder Jess Sterns (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) broke the 0-0 tie with her first goal of the year on a feed from rookie forward Kaylen Van Wagner (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) at the 45:40 mark of the match. Sterns connected for the goal as she blasted pass from the left side past Sage's keeper on the left upper corner of the goal

The two teams had their chances to score in the second half, but the Bears were able to hold on for the shutout win. Minding the net for the Bears was rookie goalie Michaela Cole (Parishville, NY/Parishvile Hopkinton) as she played the first half and was spotted at the intermission by rookie Lauren Haase (Wiliamsville, NY/Wiliamsville South), who picked up the win after making one save. She stands at 2-1 on the year in goal. Sage's junior goalkeeper Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) made nine saves in suffering the loss.

Sage returns to action on Friday, September 20 opening Skyline Conference play on the road at SUNY-Old Westbury in a 3 p.m. match-up. SUNY-Potsdam will host Utica College on September 15 in a 1 p.m. match.
