Gators fall from Skyline Conference Tournament

Old Westbury, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team travelled to SUNY-Old Westbury for the quarterfinals of the 2012 Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday. The No. 4 seeded Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury collected a 3-1 win over No. 5 seeded Sage to advance to the conference semifinals. 

The Panthers improve to 10-10 on the year, while the loss puts Sage at 5-10-1 and wraps the Gators' 2012 season. 

The two teams played a scoreless first half of action before OW's Stephanie Maybie collected the first score of the afternoon. She converted the feed from JoAnna Kettelle at the 59:56 mark. 

The Gators tied the action as freshman midfielder Kelsey Woron (Baltimore, MD/Chesapeake) converted a fee from sophomore defender Melissa Spring (Penfield, NY/Penfield) at the 71:46 mark. The goal was the sixth of the season for Sage's rookie performer who finishes the season second in scoring with her 13 points on six goals and an assist. 

The Panther broke the 1-1 tie as Maybie posted her second goal on the day for her 19th score, while Kettell assisted. Kettell scored the final goal on the afternoon at the 88:35 mark and finished with four points. 

Sage's sophomore keeper Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena Coeymans Selkirk) made seven saves in the match. OW's Heather Gross also tallied seven saves for the Panthers.

The contest marked the final game for Sage's 2012 seniors, Dana Spuck (Braintree, MA/Charles Finney), Rachel Wampler (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle Area), and Grace Collett (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet).  The talented trio contributed to the success of Sage's women's soccer team as they have helped the Gators garner post-season appearances in each of their four seasons on the team.
