Sage women fall at FSC but garner Skyline Bid

Farmingdale, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team travelled to Farmingdale State College on Saturday for the final Skyline Conference match of the fall.  The Farmingdale State women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-0 win over The Sage Colleges, as Head Coach Chris Roche earned his 100th career win. He now holds a career coaching record of 100-55-10.

Goalkeeper Stacey Rao (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), defender Jillian Lasota (Massapequa, N.Y.), forward Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y.), forward Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.), forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y.) and forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) were each honored as they played in their final regular-season home game today.

Freshman forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored off a cross in front from freshman defender Kelly Blank (Manorville, N.Y.) for the 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, the Rams increased the lead to 2-0 as freshman midfielder Melissa Lijo (Queens, N.Y.) netted Merrill's pass in front.

A sophomore midfielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.) goal, off freshman forward Shannon Kennedy's pass, gave Farmingdale State a 3-0 advantage with 3:52 remaining in the first half. Sophomore defender Andrea Kiefer (Centereach, N.Y.) scored on a penalty kick for the final goal of the half, 4-0 Rams.

In the second half, Farmingdale held Sage to one shot, en route to their 11th win of the season.

Rao recorded one save in goal for the Rams, while sophomore keeper Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena Coeymans Selkirk) had 12 saves in the loss for Sage.

With today's victory, the Rams have clinched the #2 seed for the Skyline Conference playoffs. They will have a first round bye and host a semifinal match on Wednesday, October 31st at a time to be determined. Sage has also garnered the No. 5 spot in the tournament and will travel to No. 4 seeded SUNY-Old Westbury for a game on October 27. Start time to be determined. The post-seaspn appearance for the Gators is the team's sixth straight berth, but the first for the team's rookie head coach, Caitlin Colfer.

Sage returns to action on October 22 travelling to MCLA for a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
