MSMC Tops Sage in women's soccer action, 4-1

Colonie, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Thursday night in a key Skyline Conference match.  The Knights improved to 7-0 in the league and 13-2-1 overall with a   4-1 win over Sage. The loss puts the Gators at 5-7-1 overall and 4-2-1 n the Skyline.

For MSMC, freshman forward Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream Central) collected  three goals and an assist in the match. Robe leads all of the women's soccer players in scoring, not only in Division III, but also Division I and II with her 24 goals and 49 points this fall.

Robe scored the first goal of the night at 12:37 before the Gators tied the contest as rookie Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic) connected for her team leading 13th goal of the season.

Robe broke the 1-1 with her second goal of the night at 42:22 to give the Knights a 2-1 lead at the break. Robe scored another goal and assisted on the team's final goal giving her a seven point performance on the night.

Sage's sophomore keeper Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena Coeymans-Selkirk) finished the night with a personal-best 13 saves in falling to 5-7-1 in net. MSMC's junior goalie Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream Central) picked up the win after making five saves.

Prior to the match Sage honored their seniors, Dana Spuck (Braintree, MA/Charles Finney), Rachel Wampler (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle Area), and Grace Collett (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet).  The talented trio have contributed to the success of Sage's women's soccer team as they have helped the Gators garner post-season appearances in each of the previous three seasons on the team, while the 2012 is in contention for a spot in the upcoming 2012 Skyline Conference Tournament as well.

Sage returns to action on October 20 travelling to Farmingdale State College for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference match, while Mt. St. Mary College will visit NYU-Poly on October 21 in a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference match.
