Marszalek's pair helps lift Sage over Cazenovia

Glenmont, NY---The Sage's women's soccer team opened the 2011 season on Saturday hosting the Wildcats of Cazenovia College in a non-conference match at the Bethlehem SoccerPlex. Sage's senior forward Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) scores a pair of first-half goals to lift Sage to the 3-0 win on the afternoon. The Gators stand at 1-0 on the young season, while Cazenovia drops to 0-1.

Marszalek scored the first of her two scores at the 7:49 mark of the match on a feed from junior forward Rebecca Doble (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh). She netted her second goal at 16:42 and has already taken an early lead in the Gator scoring race. The final goal of the contest was scored by freshman midfielder Lindsay Millett (Ravena, NY/Ravena Selkirk-Coeymans) at 63:06, marking her first collegiate score.

Marszalek now has 45 career goals with 99 career total points and is just four goals shy of becoming the program's all-time goal scoring leader. The mark is currently held by Kelley Richer (48 goals, 1991-1994) and she also holds the points mark as well with 111 on 48 goals and 15 assists.

Sage's senior goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) recorded the shutout with her four saves and now has 11 career shutouts, which is second on the Sage career list behind the 19 recorded by Schuyler Kokernak (2004-2007).

Cazenovia's junior goalie Nalia Bouley (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) made four saves in the loss.
