Sage's offense and defense prove worthy to challenge from Old Westbury on Senior Day

Albany, NY---The Sage's women's soccer team hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Sunday afternoon at Albany Academy for Girls in the final Skyline Conference match of the season for both teams. Sage collected the 3-0 upset win over the Panthers to improve to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the Skyline Conference. The loss puts Old Westbury at 11-7 overall and 7-3 in the league.

Junior Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) tallied a pair of goals to elevate her team-leading performance on the season to include 14 goals and 32 points. She has now had six multiple-goal games, including three straight for the Gators. She has now tallied 30 or more points three straight seasons and has tied her personal-best of 32 points, which she connected on in 2009. Overall on her career, the junior forward now has 43 goals and is moving closer to the Sage career goals record held by Kelley Richer (48, 1991-1994). She also is closing in on the career total point mark as she has 95 points, 16 shy of Richer's record of 111.

Senior Nicole Killeen (Petersburgh, NY/Berlin Central) also connected for a goal, the first of the contest, which turned out to be the game-winner. Killeen is the squad's second leading scorer with a personal-best 20 points on nine goals and two assists. With her performance on Sunday, she tallied her 50th career point, becoming the program's sixth leading point scorer. She also moved into the top six position with her 22nd career goal on Sunday afternoon, a day when Sage honored their six seniors prior to the contest.

Among the players also recognized by Sage was senior goalkeeper Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), who had 10 saves in earning the shutout win, the fifth of the year for Sage.

SUNY-Old Westbury's senior goalie Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, NY/Mepham) took the loss on the day to drop to 2-3 in goal. She played almost 54 minutes in goal with two goals allowed and two saves, before being hurt on a play where she collided with a Sage player while making a play. She was replaced in goal by freshman Stephanie Zornberg (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial), who yielded one goal in 36+ minutes of service.

For the Gators, McDonald continues to add to her record career in goal. She currently is in second place on the list in almost every goalkeeping statistic. McDonald ranks second with her 33 starts in goal, while racking up 10 career shutouts with a 1.17 career goals against average. She stands third on the career list with 233 career saves in 2,842 minutes of service.
