Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's soccer team hosted the Wildcats of SUNY-IT on Wednesday afternoon in the team's 2010 home opener. Sage collected the 2-1 victory to improve to 2-2 on the year, while SUNY-IT falls to 4-2.
Sage's senior Laura Tisinger (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) gave the Gators a 1-0 lead as she converted a cross from the right from sophomore Rebecca Doble (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) at 12:54. SUNY-IT tied the action ten minutes later with a goal by freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) at22:46. The score was knotted at the half.
Junior forward Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) broke the tie with her second goal of the season as she found the net on a rebound off the Wildcat's keeper who misplayed the ball at 46:48. The goal turned out to be the second game-winner of the year for Marszalek and the 11th of her career. She has now tallied 31 career goals, which ties her for No. 2 on the career scoring list at Sage with Michaela McBride (2001-2003). She also tied McBride for No. 2 on the career points list as she now has 67 points.
In goal for the Gators, was Sage's senior goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) as she made nine in the contest. SUNY-IT's freshman goalie Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) finished with four saves with two goals allowed, while freshman Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) added one on the afternoon.
Sage returns to action on September 18 on the road at St. Joseph's College in a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference match, while faces Morrisville also on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m.
