Women's lacrosse drops finale despite strong second half

Albany, NY –  Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team hosted Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon in conjunction with their senior day. The Gators had a strong second half, but fell to Golden Flyers 19-12. RSC wraps the season at 5-8 overall and 2-5inthe Empire 8, while Nazareth improves to 6-1 in the Empire 8 and 9-7 overall.

Junior midfielder Marissa Key (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) led the Gators with her four goals in the contest. Junior attacker Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) racked up three goals with an assist and had five ground balls in the match.  Hines wraps the season as the team's leading scorer with 50 goals and 12 assists. Her 62 points this year was a career-best for the junior, who now has 115 career points which is No. 2 all-time. Her 97 career goals is second highest as well, while her 18 career assists checks in at sixth best.

Sophomore Maddison Walter (Moreau, NY/South Glens Falls) added two goals, while senior midfielder Caroline Musinski (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) tallied a goal and an assist with four draw controls. Junior Ashley Hearn (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) added two goals and four draw controls.

Sophomore goalie Madalyn Walsh (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) made 12 saves in the game.

On her career, Musinski finishes with 91 points (No. 5) on 60 goals (No. 6) with 31 career assists, which is second all-time. She added 73 career ground balls (No. 9) with 60 draw controls (No. 6).

Defensive performer and graduate student Brylee Pelfrey (New Hampton, NY/Minisink Valley) finishes with 59 caused turners which is fifth highest and made 39 career starts (No. 5). Another senior Samantha Shafer (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) averaged 1.70 goals per game (No. 8) and 0.50 assists per game (No. 6). Senior defender Jillian Goralewski (Kingston, NY/Kingston) played in 13 career games having battled injuries in her time with the Gators. Senior defender Mia Unverzagt (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) played in every match this season and appeared in 27 matches over the course of her two-year lacrosse career. A newcomer with the Gators this season, defender Shaye Gardinier (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) played in all 13 games this spring.
