Late-game rally not enough as RSC falls to Manhattanville, 12-10

Purchase, NY –  Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team travelled to Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference match-up with the Valiants. Despite a late-game rally, the Gators fell 12-10. Manhattanville improves to 4-0, while the loss puts the Gators at 2-2.

Junior attacker Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) led the Gators with five points on two goals with three assists. She added three ground ball pickups with two caused turnovers.  

Manhattanville jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter before junior midfielder Ashley Hearn (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) scored with 0:45 left in the first to put the Gators on the scoreboard. Senior midfielder Caroline Musinski (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) had back-to-back goals to open the second quarter and pull the Gators within two, down 5-3. In the second half, Hines scored at the 11:56 mark in the third and pulled RSC within a goal, down 6-5.  Three more times, RSC would pull within a pair of goals, including the final score of the match as junior Marissa Key (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) scored with 1:59 left in the contest.

For the Gators, Musinski tallied three goals and was 2-for-4 in converting free position attempts with a caused turnover and two ground ball scoops. Key had three goals with four caused turnovers on the day, while junior Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) racked added a goal and an assist with four draw controls. Hearn added four caused turnovers with three ground balls.

Sophomore goalie Madalyn Walsh (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) made 10 saves in the actions and is now 2-2 in the net.

Looking ahead, the Gators will travel to Potsdam for a 4 p.m. non-conference match-up on March 21.
