Women's lacrosse rolls past Castleton 19-8

 

Castleton, VT –  Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team travelled to Vermont on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference match-up with the Spartans of Castleton University. Sage jumped out to a 10-5 lead at the intermission and never looked back as they collected their second straight win after recording a 19-8 victory. Now2-1, RSC had multiple players find the net more than once on Saturday.

 

Junior attacker Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) led the Gators with eight points as she also handed out one assist with her seven goals. She now has a team-best 21 points on 19 goals with two assists. She now has 74 career points on 66 goals with eight assists.

 

Junior Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) racked up seven points on five goals with two assists. She added three ground balls and has elevated her season total to include 21 draw controls with 13 points on nine goals with four assists.

 

Senior attacker Samantha Shafer (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) connected for two goals with an assist and had five ground balls, while senior midfielder Caroline Musinski (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) had five points on three goals with two assists and led the team with seven ground ball pick-ups.

 

Sophomore goalie Madalyn Walsh (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) earned the win as she made six saves and stands at 2-1 on the year.

 

All told, six different players found the net for Sage in the game. The Gators are now averaging 16.33 goals per game on the season and have outscored their opponents by a 49-28 margin.  Sage has now scored 19 goals in back to back games. That scoring output ranks fourth for single-game team goals for the Gators.

 

Looking ahead, the Gators will travel to Manhattanville for 1 p.m. non-conference match-up on March 18..
