Women's lacrosse team falls to Morrisville in season-opener

Morrisville, NY — Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team opened their 2022 campaign on Monday night on the road at Morrisville State. In a game that featured a weather delay, the Gators battled the Mustangs, but fell 12-7. The game marked the debut of rookie head coach Alyssa Treanor for RSC. Morrisville (2-0) held a 7-5 lead at the half.

RSC's sophomore attacker Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) led the Gators with three goals and a pair of assists. The Gators got single goals from graduate player Caitlyn Lopeck (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South), rookie Aimee Rodriquez (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), junior Caroline Musinski (Pownal, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) and junior Kyla Kruger (Kingston, NY/Kingston).

Sophomore co-captain Lailah Espinal (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) added six ground ball pickup with three caused turnovers, while Musinski racked up five grounds balls in the contest.

In goal for the Gators, senior Madeline Butta (Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) made 10 saves in the match in taking the loss.

Morrisville's Aria Treadway led all scorers with five goals and added an assist, while Maddie Baum finished with three goals and an assist.

Laura Lorraine finished with 10 saves in earning the win.

The Gators are back in action hosting Bard College on March 12 at 1 p.m. in the team's home opener at ACP Stadium.
