Stevens tops Sage in Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse Action

Hoboken, NJ — Kyra Bednarski and Maeve McGovern scored four goals each for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team in an 18-1 Empire 8 victory over The Sage Colleges Tuesday night. The Ducks are 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the league while the Gators are 2-12 and 1-6 in the Empire 8.

Bednarski had five assists and McGovern added three for the Ducks. Hannah Condren tallied three times and Stevens got two goals each from Haley Hanrahan and Brianne Salera in the victory. Natalie Fitzpatrick, Emily Shanklin and Gale Bennett had one goal each. Shanklin had seven draw controls and three ground balls while Fitzpatrick also had three ground balls. Lauren Cunniff made all three saves in 30 minutes of action.

Junior midfielder Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) scored for the Gators with 3:17 remaining in the second period. She joined freshman defender Kasey McKeown (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) with three ground balls each. Gage also had two draw controls. Sophomore Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made four saves in 42:17 and sophomore Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) stopped one in 17:43.

The Ducks had 29 shots on the night, 23 of which were on the net. The hosts won 17 draw controls and had 11 caused turnovers while Sage had 10. Stevens had a 13-0 lead at halftime. The Gators forced 15 turnovers in the contest.

Sage finishes the 2019 season on Saturday, April 27 with a 1 p.m. Empire 8 game at #13 St. John Fisher. Stevens ends the regular season Saturday at home against Empire 8 rival Alfred University at 4 p.m.
