Gators fall short to Utica

Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges hosted Utica College on Wednesday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest as both teams entered the action at 1-0 in the conference. Utica recorded a 22-0 win to remain perfect in the league as they now stand at 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8. Sage drops to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Utica's senior Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) led the Pioneers with her three goals and an assist as 14 different Utica players scored in the contest. Rookie Sinead Bonner (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) added two goals with an assist as well in the match-up.  

Junior midfielder Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added five caused turnovers with five ground ball pickups, while rookie defender Kerry McKeown (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added four draw controls in the contest.

Sophomore Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made six saves in 30 minutes in the Sage net while sophomore Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) made three saves stop in her 30 minutes of action.

Utica's junior goalie Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) made one save in collecting the shutout win and is now 8-1 on the campaign.

The Gators will host Empire 8 rival Elmira College on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. at ACP Field.
