Risler's five goals not enough as Sage falls to Elms

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Blazers of Elms College in a non-conference match on Tuesday evening. Elms led 8-6 at the half but got a big second half performance from a pair of performers senior attacker Vanessa Vurno (Salem, CT/East Lyme) and junior midfielder Haley Richard (Monson, MA/Monson) as they each added three second half goals in besting Sage, 19-12. With the win, Elms is now 3-1 overall and Sage drops to 1-3.

For the game, Vurno finished with 10 points on six goals with four assists, while Richard added four goals with two assists. Junior attacker Reilly Jodoin (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) added five goals with an assist for the Blazers.

Sage's junior attacker Anne Risler (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) led the Gators with her five goals with seven draw controls. Junior midfielder Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added three goals with an assist and racked up eight draws in the match.

In goal, Elm's sophomore keeper Emily Huber (Jefferson, ME/Lincoln Academy) earned the win with 8 saves in 60 minutes of work with 12 goals allowed. Sage's sophomore Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) took the loss with 8 goals allowed in 30 minutes of work with 10 saves. Azab drops to 0-2 on the season. At the half, Sage's sophomore keeper Carly Plaisance (Benninton, VT/Mount Anthony Union) entered the net for the Gators and recorded 12 saves with 11 goals allowed.

For the Gators, Risler moved into the No. 9 spot in career points (43) and No. 9 in career goals with 36. Gage is now fifth in the career record book with her 12 assists, while standing No. 3 in career draw controls with 85.

Sage is back in action on March 23 travelling to Alfred University for their 2019 Empire 8 opener with the Saxons at 2 p.m. Elms is back in action on March 22 hosting Purchase College in a 4:30 p.m. non-conference match.
