Women's Lacrosse opens season vs. Plattsburgh

Albany, NY— Reece Wiley scored five goals to lead Plattsburgh State University to a 17-1 women's lacrosse victory over The Sage Colleges in a non-league game at ACP Field Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals evened up at 1-1 for the young season while the Gators are 0-1 after this season-opening contest.

Emily Caoili scored four goals with an assist for Plattsburgh, while Allie Vangas tallied three times. Sammy Tanner and Frankie Porcaro scored twice each and Katelyn McGlauflin scored a goal. Vangas also added an assist. 

Sage freshman defender Kerry McKeown (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills) scored her first career goal as a Gator, while sophomore attack Sophia Pierce (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) assisted on McKeown's tally. 

Plattsburgh State had 43 shots to Sage's 11 on the day and had 32 ground balls while the Gators recorded 26. Cardinal goalkeeper Alexa Cassidy made four saves in the victory. Sage converted 10 of 29 clear attempts while Plattsburgh was successful on 11 of 15 clear attempts. Sage sophomore goalkeeper Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) made 10 saves and sophomore Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) stopped two for the hosts. Plattsburgh led 11-0 at halftime. Sage ended the shutout bid with McKeown's score with 14:48 left to play in the second half.

Sage is back in action on Tuesday, March 12 when the Gators host Medaille at 3 p.m. at ACP Field. Plattsburgh hosts Norwich Monday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
