Brittany Gage honored as 2018 Gator of the Year in Women's Lacrosse

Albany, NY-- The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2017-2018 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2017-2018 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

Sage also awarded the Gator of the Year to members of the varsity teams, often awarded to the team's most valuable player. Named the Gator of the Year in women's lacrosse this year was sophomore midfielder Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush).

Head women's lacrosse coach Lauren Marois noted of Brittany, "Brittany excelled greatly this year in the midfield position." Marois added, "She was a crucial part of our draw controls whether she was taking the draw or on the circle. Her aggressiveness on the defensive end was outstanding and she was a play maker for us on the attacking end. As a sophomore, Brittany showed leadership skills on and off of the field and consistently had a wonderful attitude. I cannot wait to see where the rest of her career takes her."

On her 2018 season, Gage started all 14 games for the Gators and poured in 13 points on 10 goals with three assists. She was the leader in draw controls with 35, while adding 33 ground ball pickups with 12 caused turnovers. Two of her goals came on free position attempts for the spring. A two-year letterwinner at Sage, she has 29 points on 19 goals with 10 assists. She has racked up 60 ground ball pickups with 65 draws and 37 caused turnovers. She heled Sage to an impressive 5-9 mark with a 2-6 record in the Empire 8 conference as a first-year member of the league. The five wins in a season ranks second all-time at Sage, while as a rookie she was part of the team's first post-season appearance as the 2017 team went 7-9 and earned a berth in the Skyline Conference Tournament.

She is currently tied for seventh on the Sage career assist list, while she is also 10th in ground ball pickups. She is also already third on the career list in draw controls, while standing tied for sixth in caused turnovers.
