Trio of Gators honored with the release of the 2018 Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team

Rochester, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team had three performers honored with the release of the 2018 Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team. A first-year member of the Empire 8 in 2018, Sage posted a 5-9 record overall and a 2-6 Empire 8 mark.

Named to the Empire 8 Honorable Mention Team from Sage were senior attacker Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and graduate performer Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) on defense. Senior Nikki Pedone (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was named to the Sportswoman Team.

Sperl, who earned Empire 8 Player of the Week status on April 23, finishes the 2018 season as Sage's top scorer with 48 points on 39 goals with nine assists. In her two seasons at Sage, Sperl collected 88 career points. She finishes her time at Sage ranked third in career points, third in career goals (77), and sixth in assists (11).

Mason added 42 career appearances in her two seasons on the women's lacrosse team.  She wraps her career second all-time with her 96 career ground ball pickups. On the 2018 season, she added 37 ground ball pickups with 35 draw controls. A team leader in draws, she also caused 16 turnovers on the season in 14 games played and started.

Pedone, a 2018 team tri-captain added three points on one goal and two assists for the year. She also led the team with her 23 caused turnovers with 39 ground ball pickups in 14 games played. On her career, the two-time captain racked up 66 career ground ball pickups and is sixth on the career list, while her 39th career draws is tied for ninth best.

Sportsmanship Team

In addition to the yearly awards and all-conference teams, one member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2018 Lacrosse Sportswoman of the Year Team.  Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
