Sperl picks up 7 points as Gators Top SVC, 15-2

 

Albany, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse squad hosted the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup at ACP.  Sage's senior Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) picked up seven goals in the action as she had five goals with two assists as the Gators tops SVC, 15-2. With the win, Sage is now 3-8 overall, while SVC drops to 3-6.

Sage led 11-1 at the half and racked up 41 shots in the action. Sperl's efforts lead the Gators this season as she now has 33 points on 26 goals with seven assists. She also moved into the No. 3 spot in career points as she has 73 points, just passing Nicole Maher with 72 points. Sperl is now third with her 64 career goals, while her 9 career assists is tied for seventh at Sage.

Sage's senior Martine Ianniello (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) added three goals, while senior Adriana Spucches (Saugerties, NY/Red Hook) added one goal with three assists for the Gators. Spucches added seven draw controls on Tuesday night as well with four points.

Ianniello now has 53 career points, good enough for the No. six spot in career points, while her 46 career goals is seventh. She is tied with Spucches and Sperl for the fifth spot with nine career assists.

SVC's two goals came from rookie Alex Safford (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and senior Natalie Rose Canterbury (New Hartford, CT/Forman School). Safford leads SVC with her 31 points on 28 goals with 3 assists, while Canterbury now has three goals this spring.

Sage's rookie goalies Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Union Anthony) allowed only two goals in the action. Azab, the starter and winner recorded four saves with one goal allowed in the first half, while Plaisance made one save with one goal allowed in the second half.

SVC's senior goalie Kristiana Goldup (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) suffered the loss with 14 saves and 15 goals allowed in the action.

Next up for the Gators, they will host the Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic on April 19 at 7 p.m. at ACP's Athletic Complex. Southern Vermont College is hosting Elms College on April 18 at 4 p.m.
