Sage women's lacrosse falls at Nazareth

Rochester, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team travelled to Nazareth College on Saturday for a conference match-up in the Empire 8.  The Golden Flyers earned the 25-4 win to improve to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8. The loss puts Sage at 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Nazareth was paced by the play fourteen different players that figured in the scoring on Saturday. Haley DeVona added six points on three goals with three assists and helped Nazareth jump out to a 17-1 lead.

Sage's senior Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) picked up two goals on the day to lead the Gators. She leads the Gators with her 17 goals and has 20 points on the year through six contests. Sperl is now fifth in both career goals and points. She has 55 career goals and 60 career points in her time on the field at Sage.

Sophomore attacker Anne Risler (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and senior Martine Ianniello (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) both found the net one time for Sage. Ianniello is the team's second leading scorer this spring with her 12 points on nine goals with three assists. She is now eighth in career points with 45 points and ranks eighth as well with her 38 goals. She stands tied for seventh in career assists with seven.

Sophomore Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) also had five draw controls with three ground ball pickups. Gage now has 47 career draws to her credit and is now sixth on the Gator career list. Senior defender Nikki Pedone (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) added three ground ball pickups with three caused turnovers for the Gators.  Pedone ranks eighth now with her 29 career caused turnovers and lead Sage this season with 12 caused turnovers.

Sage's rookie goalie Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Union Anthony) made the start and recorded four saves with 12 goals allowed in 23:39 minutes of service. Junior Jenna Cislak (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) added time in goal for 36:21 with three saves and 13 goals allowed.

On Thursday, April 5, Sage's women's lacrosse team will host SUNY-Canton at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Athletic Complex. The Gators will hold their Sexual Assault Awareness Game in conjunction with the contest which starts at 4 p.m. that day. On Saturday, April 7 Sage's men's volleyball team will be in action in a tri-match in Kahl Gym and the Gator men's volleyball team will also bring awareness to the issue of Sexual Assault. Sunday's activities wrap with the Sage softball team hosting Stevens in a 1 p.m. Empire 8 doubleheader at Robison Field in Troy. All of these event will be Sage Sexual Awareness Games.

Sage's Director of Title IX & EEO Compliance, Dishpaul S. Dhuga, J.D. will be in attendance at the contests and can assist with any questions concerning the program. In his role at Sage, he is charged with making sure that the college is in compliance with Title IX and NYS Enough is Enough laws, conducts investigations, and provides training and awareness around campus about sexual assault prevention.
