Women's lacrosse opens season with setback at Neumann

Aston, PA-  The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season on Saturday travelling to Neumann University for a non-conference match. The Knights collected a 19-6 win to improve to 2-3, while Sage stands at 0-1. Neumann led 9-3 at the half and by game's end was paced by the play of Kaitlyn Conrad who had seven goals with three assists.

Sage got two goals from senior attacker Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties), while sophomore Anne Risler (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) added a goal and an assist.  Senior Martine Ianniello (Havre de Grace, MA/Havre de Grace) also found the net for one goa in the opener. Ianniello now has 34 career points with 30 career goals. She is ninth in points on the Gator career list, while Sperl is now seventh in points having moved ahead of Mallory Hansen (2013-2014, 41 points). Sperl has 42 career points on 39 goals and three assists.

The trio of keepers for Sage included junior Jenna Cislak (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) making the start with and rookie goalies Marina Azab (Niskayana, NY/Niskayuna) and Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) sharing time in net in the second half. Cislak took the loss after starting the game with two saves and nine goals allowed. Azab entered at the half and made four saves with six goals allowed in 16:40. Plaisance picked up one save with four goals allowed in 13:20 of service.

The Gators are in action again on March 17 hosting U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 1 p.m. at ACP's Athletic Complex in a non-conference match.
