Late-game rally by Knights ends Sage's Skyline Title Hopes, 16-14

Newburgh, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team dropped a heart breaker on Tuesday night in the first round of the 2017 Skyline Conference Tournament after losing to No. 4 seeded Mt. St. Mary College, 16-14. The Gators' season came to an end after the team reached new high-water marks for success that included seven wins, five wins in a row and a spot in post-season play, all Sage women's lacrosse firsts.

MSMC improves to 7-7 and advances to the Skyline Semifinals to face top seeded Farmingdale State on May 4 at 4 p.m. Sage's season comes to a close with the Gators finishing the season with a 7-9 mark.

After tying the game at the half at 7-7, Sage jumped out to a 10-7 lead to open the second half, but the Knights clawed back to tie the action at 12-12 with 18:54 left to play. MSMC then reeled off four unanswered goals and held a 16-12 lead before Sage added a pair of goals, but could not tie the action before time expired.

Sage's senior attacker Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) led the team with her four goals and wraps her stellar career as the program's all-time leading scorer. On the 2017 season, she led the team in scoring with 69 goals and 16 assists, good enough for a program-best 85 points, all Sage single-season records. The program's all-time leading scorer, she added 234 points on 182 goals, 52 assists and played in a school-record 56 games.

Sage graduate player Nicole Maher (Glen Cove, NY/Saint Dominic) added five goals with three goals and a pair of assists. The two-year Gator also wraps her Sage career as a leader having added 72 points, which is No. 3 all-time. She added 58 goals (No. 4) with14 assists (No. 4).

Sage's junior Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) also picked up three goals in the contest elevating her season resume to include 40 goals and 42 points.  Junior Adriana Spucches (Saugerties, NY/Red Hook) added a trio of goals in the match, while rookie Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added a pair of assists.

Sage's senior goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) and sophomore keeper Jenna Cislak (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) shared time in the net as St. Pierre took the loss. The program's all-time saves leader, St. Pierre amassed 539 saves in her four seasons at Sage and also holds the program's record for most career wins which she set with 17.

MSMC's Katie Gattoni led the Knights with her six goals and eight points, while Kayla Gilligan added five goals with two assists to lead the team to the Skyline semifinals.
