Gators roll over MCLA in home opener, 18-7 as Koralus tallies 9 points

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted MCLA on Thursday afternoon in the Gators' 2017 home opener. Sage was paced by the play of senior tri-captain Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) as she romped with nine points in the contest adding seven goals and two assists. With the win, Sage collects their first season victory and is now 1-3, while MCLA drops to 2-3. By game's wrap, Sage had tallied a season-best 18 goals and limited the Trailblazers to just seven goals for the 18-7 win.

Koralus already holds almost every single Sage women's lacrosse scoring records and continues to add to her impressive career resume.  She already has 11 goals on the season with three assists, elevating her list of Gator high-water marks to 163 points, 124 goals, 39 assists, 82 ground ball pickups, and 129 draw controls.

Sage led 12-2 at the half and by game's end got a career-best four goals from junior Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties). The Gators held a 29-21 edge on the shots and got a strong performance in net as Sage's senior goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) racked up three saves with two goals allowed in the first half for the win. She continues to add to her resume with a school mark for most saves which has grown to 452. She shared time in goal with senior Chelsea Hunt (Verplank, NY/Hendrick Hudson) as they each played 30 minutes and Hunt was perfect with five saves and no goals allowed.

Maher, a 2016 Skyline Conference All-Star Second Team pick in her rookie season as a lacrosse player at Sage, now has 41 career points on 33 goals and 8 assists. She is climbing the record book as well as she stands tied for sixth in points and seventh in goals.

The Gators will visit Bard College on March 25 for a 1 p.m. match-up with the Raptors.
