Gators drop Skyline opener to SUNY-Old Westbury

Old Westbury, NYThe Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team visited the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon for the team's 2016 Skyline Conference opener. SUNY-Old Westbury held a 12-1 lead at the break and went on to record a 16-5 win over Sage in the match. With the win, the Panthers are now 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline, while Sage drops to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Old Westbury's Natasha Treuman led all scorers with her seven goals and paced her team on the afternoon as six different players scored.

Sage's junior co-captain Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) added one goal with two assists to finish with three points. Sophomore Ellen Abbott (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia), rookie Michaela DeRuzzio (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills), sophomore Nikki Pedone (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), and junior Martine Ianniello (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) all scored for the Gators.

Koralus leads Sage this season with 40 points on 31 goals with nine assists. She is the program's all-time career point leader with 110 points on 80 goals and 30 assists. She has a school-record 30 career assists and is No. 2 now with her 80 goals, just 10 shy of tying the mark held by Alexa Pajak (90 goals, 2012-2013).

In goal, Sage's junior Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) made eight saves in the contest for the Gators.

Sage will travels to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on April 8 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
