Record setting efforts not enough as Gators fall to Bard, 11-8

Watervliet, NYThe Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Raptors of Bard College in a non-conference match held at Watervliet High School.  Bard tallied the third straight win as they beat Sage, 11-8 on Tuesday night. Bard improves to 3-2 overall, while Sage drops to 3-3.

Bard led 6-4 at the half as rookie Marion Adams (San Diego, CA/Point Loma) added three goals in the half. Sage pulled within one goal, twice during the second half. The first time at 12:03 as Sage's junior co-captain Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) tallied a free position goal at 12:03 (Bard 8-7 Sage). The second time was at 9:55 as sophomore Ellen Abbott (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) scored on a free position goal, pulling the Gators within one, down 9-8.

Bard's rookie Casey Witte (Hardwick, NJ/Blair Academy) scored at 5:05 to break the Gators' late-game run and rookie Nicole Ellin (Franklin, MA/Franklin) scored at 4:31 to give the Raptors an 11-8 lead.

By game's end, Adams led her team with four goals giving her 10 on the season, while Witte added three goals and continues to lead the squad in scoring with 15 goals and 18 points. Ellin finished the action with a pair of goals and assists, while senior Alexandra Clarke (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown Friends) added two goals and an assist.

Koralus led Sage with four goals and became the program's all-time points leader as she surpassed the mark held by Alexa Pajak, who had 106 points.  Pajak had 106 points on 90 goals in her two seasons with the program (2012-2013).  Koralus now has 107 career points on 79 goals and a program-best 28 assists.  On the 2016 season, Koralus leads Sage with her 37 points on 30 goals and seven assists.

Sage got single goals from sophomore midfielder Nikki Pedone (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), senior Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic), Abbott, and junior Martine Ianniello (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh).  

In goal, Sage's junior Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) made 10 saves in the contest and became the program's career saves leader in the process. She moved ahead Courtney Reed (324 saves, 2010-2013) as she now has 334 saves.

Bard's sophomore goalie Kaylynn Tran (New Orleans, LA/Patrick Taylor Academy) picked up the win as she turned away 14 of the shots she faced.

Sage will travels to SUNY-Old Westbury for the team's 2016 Skyline Conference opener on April 2 at 1 p.m. Bard is back in action on April 1 hosting Vassar College in a 4 p.m. Liberty League contest.
