Troy, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic on Saturday afternoon in the opener for both teams. SUNY-Polytechnic tallied a 14-5 win to improve to 1-0 on the young season, while Sage drops to 0-1.

Sage scored first as sophomore midfielder Ellen Abbott (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) scored her first career goal at 29:11. The Wildcats tied the action as junior attacker Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, NY/Colonie) tied the action at 23:57. Senior attacker Nicole Maher (Glen Cove, NY/Saint Dominic) gave the Gators a 2-01 lead with her first career score at 21:52. Junior Krysta Beha (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) scored at 20:40 and senior Meghan Serota (Carthage, NY/Carthage Central) found the net at 19:04 to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.

SUNY-Polytechnic tallied six unanswered goals before junior Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) score at 4:22 and made the score 7-3. By the half, the Wildcats held a 10-3 lead.

Sage's defense held the Wildcats scoreless for the first 14 minutes of the second half and scored the first goal of the second stanza as sophomore Martine Ianniello (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) score at 16:09.

By game's end, Beha led all scorers with her five points on four goals and an assist, while Serota added three goals and a pair of assists. DiPiazza finished with three goals for the Wildcats. Sage's Koralus added two scores, elevating her career resume to include 72 career points. The program's No. 2 all-time leading scorer, she has 51 goals (No. 3), while leading the Gators with her 21 career assists.

In goal, Sage's junior Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) took the loss with 10 saves in goal, while Polytechnic's sophomore Megan Will (Remsen, NY/Remsen Central School) added seven saves. St. Pierre has now tallied 294 career saves, which ranks No. 2 all-time behind the mark set by Courtney Reed (324, 2010-2013).

Sage returns to action on March 15 hosting Green Mountain College in a 4 p.m. non-conference contest at RPI's Renwyck Field.
