Bard takes down Sage 17-11 in women's lacrosse action despite seven points by Koralus

Kingston, NY--The Bard College women's lacrosse team held off Sage, 17-11, in a non-league game played at Dietz Stadium on Tuesday night.

Bard scored 12 seconds into the game and had a 5-1 lead before eight minutes was gone. But Sage (0-6) responded with three straight goals to cut it to 5-4 with about 20 minutes left in the first half.

The Raptors (1-5) scored the next three goals, but rookie Martine Ianniello (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) scored with one second left to cut Bard's lead to 8-5 at halftime.

The game changed at the start of the second half. Bard scored four straight goals to go up, 12-5. The Gators got as close as 12-7, but not closer, and Bard won its first game of the season.

Sage's sophomore Monica Kolarus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) racked up five goals with two assists to lead the team. She now has 13 goals with five assists for 18 points. Graduate student Shirah Fudin (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) tallied four goals with two assists in the action and continues to lead the team in scoring with her 17 goals and three assists. Fudin, a Skyline Conference Honor Roll performer this week, now has 31 career goals and 4 assists, good enough for 35 points which is No. 6 on the all-time scoring list at Sage. Koralus checks in with 28 goals and 10 assists for 38 points and is now No. 5 on the same Sage scoring list.

Bard's Joanna Regan tallied four goals with an assist, while Alexandra Clarke scored four goals in the win.

Sage's sophomore Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) made 14 saves in the contest with 17 goals allowed. Bard's Kaylynn Tran picked up the win after making three saves.

Sage returns to action on April 2 hosting Maritime College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match at UAlbany's John Fallon Field.
